Because people (including me) hate reading long posts, I've decided to shorten this up. Hence, if it sounds abrupt, it was due to trying to keep it brief.
[NOTE: THERE ARE MORE GAMES THAN JUST HEROIC CTHULHU HERE - WE HAVE LOTS. PLEASE SEE THE MAIN BOARD UNDER 'OTHER GAMES' FOR DETAILS ON THOSE GAMES. (Yes, you can play via skype on several different games that meet on these boards.)]
Go through all of these steps!
1. Listen to at least one or two recent game sessions. [Reason: See if this is the kind of game you want to play in. These can be found at: http://preview.tinyurl.com/kjha9k Be sure to listen to the recent stuff - older stuff won't help you. Don't listen to one called 'gamer talk' - those are just us sitting around talking.]
2. Download and install Vassal. See this thread for how to do it: http://tinyurl.com/byyld3 Try to get the most recent version if you can. [Reason: You need skype and vassal and the HC module to play. HC module is found at http://www.eyrie.org/~thad/HC/ ]
3. Skype Logan. My skype name is logan9a. When you call, be ready to talk verbally! I hate typing. If I am available to talk, I'll chat with you for a little bit (if not, I'll call you back later). [Reason: check your sound quality and make sure you're not crazier than I am.]
4. Make a character. Read this thread ('How to make a character' on this board): http://tinyurl.com/yfvcz5u
5. Go read this thread: http://tinyurl.com/mwhkzt [Reason: Tells what time the game starts and ends, allows you to sign up for them. You need to be registered with the board to view this thread.] Note: The vast majority of people who actually play schedule up to do so within a week or two of contacting Logan. If Logan has not heard from you within that time (starting from your initial skype contact), he will assume you've lost interest and remove your name from his skype list.

Additional notes that will help new people make characters:
If you have books on various systems, please don't use them. They are not relevant. All you will need to make a character is the 'how to make a character' podcast (or the information typed below) and a character sheet.
For this campaign, you must work at the KBC. If you are fired from the KBC, you make a new character. It is not 'bring a friend to work' day. In order to get hired by the KBC it is required that you have the following skills at 60%: Evidence analysis, forensics and law. Other than that, you can put your 2000 skill points in whatever you want. It is strongly recommended that you have at least 60% in all of the skills that are bold face on the character sheet. [The 2000 points are divided up among the various skills. You can start with up to 100% in any skill you want. If a skill has a base (example, pistol has a base of 20) then you get those points for free. For example, if you were to put 20 of your 2000 points into pistol {leaving you with 1980 points} your pistol would be at 40%.] Remember that just because a skill is not listed on the character sheet that the skill might still exist. If you want to take 'political lore' (whose who in politics) you certainly can. Hobbiest skills are what separate the characters.
Your character will start with $500. It is NOT recommended that you start with any weapons as they are very illegal in the state of New York where the campaign is based. You may not start with a firearm and if you are caught with one you will probably be arrested. If you are arrested for owning a firearm (probably by the other PC's), you will be fired from the KBC (and start a new character).
For new characters, I recommend taking the base 30 stat points. If you really insist on rolling for your stats, both of us will need to be on Vassal for you to roll. Your roll will probably be about 30 points anyway - maybe less. You may only roll once and get to make a character based on that. [Your statistics all start at nine. You can divide up your 30 points to make them higher. The boxes next to them are to be filled out as well - x2, x3, x4 and x5. This helps for fast computation when the GM says 'Give me a STR by 3', etc.]

Additional notes:
That tells what days are available for you to sign up, what times we play to and from, etc. Due to this being a popular game, it is very important to pre-register. If you wait until the day of the game, you will probably be disappointed. Unless you have spoken to Logan on skype, you will be unable to preregister. At this point (as you have a character done and ready to go) you are also able to 'shark'.
What is Sharking? If you are at your computer (probably doing something else) and think "If a slot comes open in the game, I'd sure like to play" then you sign into Skype. You may get a message from either Logan or one of the players asking if you are 'sharking' - ie wishing to join a game you have not preregistered for. If you are free to game and wish to, then you might be invited in. I have no clear memory of how the term became known as 'sharking' though I'm sure someone does.
Optionally, if you are one of those people who wants to also study the campaign, check out Pete's Useful Links post at: http://tinyurl.com/yv89u8 Note that if you try to read everything on the boards before you play, you probably won't get to play - don't bother with that till you've played some. If, after playing some, you want to read things you think might be important, go for it.
If you have any questions - or have noticed that anything is missing from this thread, please message me.
