For a heavy MG, I'd let them shoot up to three targets but without the damage reduction to show the raw power of the heavy MG is what I'm trying to say. I see. Still, at only +2 damage over a rifle, I think Admiral Ackbar and I would have taken Rifle over Heavy Machine Gun if we'd known that at character creation.

So a heavy rifle does d12. And the heavy MG I was talking about does d8+d10 and can shoot up to three people with that per round.
And you're upset why?

d8+d10 is 10 on average. The heaviest automatic rifle is 8, 9, or 10 on average (depending on fire mode.)
That makes Heavy Machine Gun as a skill a noob trap since anyone familiar with the system would recognize that heavy machine guns are wildly impractical when you can do almost exactly the same thing (10 damage vs 1 target instead of up to 3) with the Rifle skill...which also allows you to use the much more practical light/medium/heavy versions.
So my idea is to further streamline the system. Merge Submachine Gun and Heavy Machine Gun into one Machine Gun skill. No other weapon uses a different skill based on how heavy your weapon is. Then plug in values to the damage track (since they are missing) for very light(d6), light(d8), medium(d10), heavy(d12), superheavy(d6+d8), and crew-served/mounted(2d8) machine guns. And then you can use the same auto fire rules as the rest of the guns. (Consistency!)

That, or make Heavy Machine Guns do ridiculous damage.

I'm happy with the way I've got it.

I'm happy with the way I've got it. It's not in line with the simplicity and consistency values that all of the other system changes have been gunning for. It just didn't come up until now because no one was using them. While it is tempting to try to figure out all kinds of shit and different weapons can do different things, I think it might be best to err on the side of simplicity. Even if we set aside the Heavy Machine Gun skill vs Submachine Gun skill issues...we still need dice values for them. Nothing has been added to the damage track, so...you don't like the numbers I suggested? Or you specifically want the numbers to remain undefined?

Happy with the way the damage track is currently set up. If I need to define a weapon I can do so at that time.

It's pretty but I'm not seeing a need to work on this at this time. I will put up something else that can be worked on.

Including this anywhere in the newbie section? People need to know that bigger = better in terms of damage.

Including this anywhere in the newbie section? People need to know that bigger = better in terms of damage. If you think it is needed, sure. Although I think Russ' thing looks much prettier, the one I have takes up much less screen real estate so I'm sticking with that for now. But his is extra pretty and I do like it.

I already had your one, but Russ wanted a prettier one. As long as one of them is included I think we are good.

I just did a screen snip, and was surprised to find that mine is actually smaller by a few pixels. (I just edited out the cursor) Attachments:

Not that I thought it needed work. I'm just transferring things to Google Sheets out of a perverse sense of fun.
