If there were a bunch of swords (or sword shaped spikes) I might give a couple bumps to the damage.
I am happy with the damage track. Thinking that is staying.

(I don't like it when things don't make sense, so let's take this to its logical absurdity.)
Okay, so any time you are about to get stabbed, jump to reduce the damage to 1. Does this apply to getting shot while falling as well?

You can give it a try, but I'm thinking you will not be best pleased with the results.
Well, if you are falling and get shot are you saying that somehow you will hit the ground at the exact same instant as the bullet enters you? If so, then I can assure you that you will always be shot at least half a meter before hitting the ground thus making it two different events. Damage bumps are given when an event is made 'worse'. Multiple events get separate damages. Hence, falling on the ground is bad, falling on to spikes is worse. Getting shot while you are falling has nothing to do with you falling.
Also, this damage is consistent with 'Charge Stone/Wood/Metal'. Either it has it's own damage or, if it is part of already existing damage it just gets a bump.
I think you are fixated on this. It's up to you if you wish to continue but I don't see any outcome other than further frustration with it.
