I may eventually put this on the Wiki (unless someone else does it) when I can be bothered, but for now I'll just leave it in a nice long post here.
LOCATIONS
LOCATIONS
Hong Kong Island
Kao Lun Island
Central, East and South districts. Nicest, richest, skyscrapers, Red light district, etc.
[11/07/2019] - Rich influential guy goes missing from his home last night. Name: Li An Jin. On the board of directors for AYS Tech. Disappearance is causing stockprice of the company to slump by a couple points which is freaking people out.
Kao Lun Island
Has a big park. Don't know much else.
Lin Tao Island
Poor people area. Next door to Disneyland and idyllic beaches. Obviously, poor people not allowed on the beaches. Also has college students. Stores have fashionable clothing with glass looking almost sterile compared to the garbage in the area.
Some kind of darkness growing in the more impoverished and deserted areas. People beginning to believe it to be “ill-omened”. People starting to disappear there, at least three. Cops don’t seem to care. People have reported high-pitched human shrieks sometimes heard on the island.
[11/07/19] – Overheard conversation: “that could have been a Shadowrunner but then I took a bullet to the knee.”

NOTEWORTHY FACTIONS/ORGANISATIONS
The Umbrella Movement
The Umbrella Movement
Protesters. Mostly college students and poor people. Carrying umbrellas, often have yellow ribbons. Have masks and tinted glasses. List of demands on leaflets being handed out. “We face a future as mortgage slaves. Forced to toil for the same megacorporations that sold them their shoebox homes for astronomical prices. The very poor being forced to live in actual cages for several generations.”
Police have set up automated water cannons. Some other sources claim that they have also set up automated machine guns. Police over brutality as well.
NOTEWORTHY PEOPLE
Zin High Young, "New Sun"
Zin High Young, "New Sun"
Charismatic up-and-coming leader in China. Kind of like an adviser for the “big guy”.
Resides in mainland China.
Age: 35
Served with the ministry of state security. Said to know “where the bodies are buried”.
Never seen in public without his blue suit, crimson tie and white shirt. Suit is so expensive it is able to look understated.
Came from the best family as far as politics in China go. Best schooling. Groomed for leadership from the age of 3.
Age 16: mother died, rumoured to be an accidental drug overdose.
Age 19: Father died. Had thrown himself into work and said to have died from heartbreak over the loss of his wife.
Older brother was lost in a yachting accident.
Age 18: Younger sister joined a covenant.
Age 15: something happened to him. Unable to get enough information. Looks like somebody tried to cover up something that happened at this age.
Picture found showing him meeting a group of people welcoming him into a keiretsu. Edge of the photo, not quite cropped out: young kid around 10-12 with huge blue hair. [Justice Swift?] Kid seemed intrigued in the photo.
High-ranking political officer, so probably very well guarded at all times.
More information about him may be out there.
People sitting near him – the closer they are, the more this is obvious – seem to be entranced and enthralled by what he is saying. Kind of ignoring him before he starts talking but as soon as he does they act as if Jesus walked into the room. Unlikely to be casting a spell. May have developed some supernatural powers or something. Unknown what. Seems to almost have a magical sway within his voice. Even the most stubborn opponents seemed mollified after meeting him.
Tall, thin. Drug dealer. Hangs out with another chubby quiet guy. HK$100 for a joint. Speaks English. Does not wear a mask. Hangs around near the big kahuna burger restaurant as well as other places. Lin Tao Island.
Leader of the Chinese Government is the ‘Paramount Leader’.(Note - this is ‘some old kind of fat ugly dude’, currently). [Nobody has a face!]
Recently, there has been some stuff going on within the Chinese government - it seems that power is slipping away from those who once consolidated it and into the hands of new players. The talking heads go on forever speculating why this is but nobody seems to really know.
One of the new people who have begun to grab up some power is 新太阳 (New Sun, pronounced ‘Zin High Young’). He is a strong advocate in dealing with citizens getting ‘above their station’ with a ‘show of overwhelming force’.
Just recently, they had a (heavily censored) incident which made Tiananmen Square look like small time - tens of thousands dead.
Not all of the government officials in China are seeing things eye to eye. Some of the ‘old guard’ have recently retired ‘in order to spend more time with their families’ or for unspecified ‘health reasons’. Wild rumours state that a shadow war is being fought among the various groups.
Events in mainland China have sparked problems here in Hong Kong, starting a new resurgence of the “Umbrella Movement”. College students and the poor have begun to gridlock traffic in the streets and grind the city to a halt, protesting the government’s allocation of land.
The land problem - in a nutshell - is that the government auctions off a parcel of land to a developer for 50 years. The developer then gets as much money as possible for it. The poor are forced to live in apartments so subdivided that an area the size of a parking space is around 4000 HKD per month. [GM note: This is about twice what it is now in real life so plausible.] People have literally begun living in cages which store their few possessions and sleeping area.
On top of that, with the Chinese governments new harsher sanctions against people on the island protesting, they have begun to shut down various services - electricity, trash collection, water. The poor now have nothing to lose.
In the richer areas of the island, many of the rich have fled for greener - and more stable pastures. People with businesses have begun a frantic party like atmosphere - not knowing whether they will live or die tomorrow. The champagne and caviar are flowing - for those who can afford it.

Other Information
Lots of traffic. Lots of people with umbrellas etc walking around. People use water taxis a lot. Lots of garbage because garbage trucks are struggling to get around. Lots of poor people because prices are out of control. Rich people are well off but everyone else is screwed. Very expensive. Especially homes.
Drones with cameras flying around, no clue who they belong to or what they are there for. Almost everything you do is under surveillance. If your face and retina is scanned, you’ll be in the system and they’ll know who you are etc. Very Big Brother.
You can stay for very long periods of time on water taxis before they decide to kick you off.
