Royal Road
Casting time: 800 KM of distance needed Range: self up to 2 other people Duration: variable - shadow walking takes time
Description:
Royal Road (slow/comfortable); takes ten days walking to cross a shadow. No nasty shadows, only comfort. Fumble means you are stuck in relative luxury for the day. Assuming you are going to a place that has nice locations you would end up in a nice location - as opposed to somewhere you could get arrested for being there. Example: You end up at a tourist spot rather than a restricted military base.

Is it just me or is this power completely worthless unless you're afraid of fumbling?

Well, you do need a 'lot longer of runway' but if you're wanting completely safe passage it's a way to go.
For PC's that aren't trying to move something that might be a bit delicate and aren't afraid of some potential fighting etc - yes, not so useful.

This would be more useful if it had its own version of the shadow walk tree. Like. Group royal road, and specific location royal road, etc.

It is a prereq for a later power (lead small group through shadow, royal road style) however it is not possible to lead armies (etc) through using the royal road - by design.

It's also a prereq for a later power.

Define "completely safe". How is it any different to the normal one?

The other one is 'whatever kind of shit - if any' the GM cares to throw at you. Hell ride = GM must throw shit at you. Giant gorilla chasing you, big flying bricks hitting your car, whatever. Royal road = Oh look - another hotel! Gas station? Yes indeed. Comfort.
It's the kind of thing that if you were living it would be a big deal. If you are not, not a big deal.

I genuinely don't see any reason for anyone to take this. Ever. Not for how long it takes. The normal one is just fine.

Again, it's the kind of thing that would be much more wonderful if you had to actually live through it than gather around a table talking about it.

Are you at least guaranteed to end up in a nice location? That would make it more worthwhile.

Good point - assuming you are going to a place that has nice locations you would end up in a nice location - as opposed to somewhere you could get arrested for being there. Example: You end up at a tourist spot rather than a restricted military base.
Good call Freddy.

We used it walking through the arctic. Didn't have to worry about cold weather gear, survival rolls, food, water, supplies, anything really. Doing the same without Royal Road, we almost died.

I totally do not remember this happening. I'd probably make it closer to a 'ski resort' or something rather than a 'you don't have to worry about rolls'. It is still possible to die at a ski resort (from cold and such) if doing stupid stuff but a bit harder than normal. As to food, water, supplies - assuming you have something that passes for money, the royal road gives all sorts of way stations and comfort. But if you are traveling through super uncomfortable lands (for some reason) you are still in super uncomfortable lands.
