We'll use a person with 60% as the example:
If you are put at half, 30%. If you are at a quarter, 15%
If you are put at half again, that does not equal 7% - it equals 'you have no chance'.
Reason - quarter is the maximum reduction to skill. I suppose after that the 'give me a crit at a quarter' is all that is left.
Reason I wanted to mention this: There is a creature that the PC's are at half to hit. If they use certain weapons in this area, they are at half. There is something else which can be done that also can put them at half. So - be careful not to get under 'at a quarter' or you are without any reasonable chance to do shit.

I thought the whole reason we brought in the “at half or -30 whichever is better” was because doing the math past a quarter was challenging some people’s math skills? There are a few skills I could be at -90 and still have an ok chance.

Point.
Though the original problem (shitty math) would then still remain.

Not if in the above problem you asked for -90 rather than an 1/8 😊 Would still be a hefty penalty, but some still might have a small chance of hitting. Think I would rather have that than you have zero chance of hitting due to game rules. Think you should always have a chance, even if it’s only 5 or 10%, and that’s not just coming from me as a players prospective.

If you're worried about math, we have character sheets for a reason you know…

Well, the main thing that having over 100 in a skill does for you (in addition to be able to very easily roll at -60%) is to increase the crit chance. There are very few times that come to mind that I call for a roll at less. This also tones down how useful over 100% skill is - which is intended.

Fair enough, I understand it won’t come up much, but when it does I think you are going to have a lot of perplexed players who don’t understand why they have zero chance to hit. I’m sure there will be ways around it, but just feel there would be better ways to do it than just put a flat “nothing over -60”

I'd probably go with 'give me a crit' - for people with 'on crack skills' that would still give them a 1 in 5 chance. Also, just thought of this, a 200 skill would do great when going skill vs skill. Acting vs empathy for example.

The next level could be "give me a crit" instead of -90.
