Counterspell
Casting time: 1 round
Range: 10m
Duration: Instant
MP cost: 4mp
ESS VS ESS of target. If the caster wins, the caster can choose which of the target’s ongoing spells stops. They must know which spell they are trying to stop enough to identify it to the GM such as ‘whatever spell is making him extra strong’ or ‘the one that lets her see in the dark’. If the caster does not know which spell, the GM can either pick one to turn off (according to plot) or roll at random.
This does not work on ‘instant spells’, magic items that are ‘permanent’, special racial effects, etc. Only on ongoing spell effects (spells which have a duration of a day or less) currently on the target.
Rank Two
Item counterspell
Casting time: 1 round
Range: 10m
Duration: Till sunrise/sunset
MP cost: 4mp
If the caster can make an ESS x3 roll (no resistance from the target as it is not ‘on them’) the item stops working until sunrise/sunset. [Note - if the item is currently ‘on’ a HERO Point rated individual, that individual may spend a HERO Point to negate this spell.]
Rank Three
Complete Counterspell
Casting time: 1 round
Range: 10m
Duration: Instant
MP cost: 6mp
ESS VS ESS of target. If the caster wins, all spells on the target stop.
This does not work on ‘instant spells’, magic items that are ‘permanent’, special racial effects, etc. Only on ongoing spell effects (spells which have a duration of a day or less) currently on the target.
Rank Four
Complete Item Counterspell
Casting time: 1 round
Range: 10m
Duration: Till sunrise/sunset
MP cost: 6mp
If the caster can make an ESS x3 roll (no resistance from the target as it is not ‘on them’) all items ‘on’ the target stop working until sunrise/sunset. [Note - if the item is currently ‘on’ a HERO Point rated individual, that individual may spend a HERO Point to negate this spell.]
Rank Five
Silence (though it just keeps them from casting spells) on an individual.
Casting time: 1 round
Range: 10m
Duration: Till sunrise/sunset
MP cost: 4mp
ESS of caster vs WIL of target. If the target fails, they can’t cast spells for awhile. They can still talk. This spell needs a better name.
Rank Six
Anti-magic field stationary - this area - no new magic can be cast nor items work in it.
Casting time: 12 rounds (1 minute)
Range: 1m
Duration: 1 hour
MP cost: 10mp
No magic - including items, spells, newly cast spells, etc - works within a 10m radius of where the caster indicated for an hour.
Rank Seven
Spell reversal
Casting time: 12 rounds (1 minute)
Range: 3m
Duration: Permanent
MP cost: 16mp
This reverses the effects of spells or spell like effects which were permanent. For example, if a basilisk had turned someone to stone, this spell would turn them back to flesh. If someone were turned into a frog, this would turn them back. If someone were hit with a death ray, this spell does nothing. Go through their pockets for change. This spell does not reverse damage type spells, cure death, etc. Ask the GM in advance if you are unsure.
Rank Eight
Reflect magic - back on to the caster go spells.
Casting time: 1 round
Range: Self
Duration: Till sunrise/sunset or when used
MP cost: 4mp
This is a ‘dumb’ defense meaning that the first spell to hit it - whether it is the death spell from the villain or your buddy trying to cast a healing spell on you - gets thrown back in their face. If there is a resistance roll for the effects of the spell, the caster of the spell will be both the caster and the target. In other words, if there is a resistance roll for the spell, the caster will generally have a 50% chance of resisting it.
The caster may only have one ‘reflect magic’ on themselves at any given time.
Rank Nine
Anti-magic field
on me - I can’t use it nor can it affect me. 1m radius of caster.
Casting time: 12 rounds (1 minute)
Range: Self, 1m radius
Duration: Till sunset/sunrise or the caster drops the effect
MP cost: 8mp
If the caster uses any magic items, they only work as though they were mundane. Example: A sword is still a sharp piece of metal but a wand is fucking useless. This is regardless of the length of the item the caster is attempting to use. Also, no spells or spell effect - whether beneficial or harmful - can affect the caster.
Rank Ten
Drain Items
Casting time: 1 hour
Range: 1m
Duration: Permanent
MP cost: None - and it refills the casters MP.
This spell is a ritual. You need a table, fancy table cloth, candles and incense. The incense is burned while all the magic crap you are attempting to suck the magic out of is placed on a table. If the player has special magic crystals (a magic item) they may attempt to fill those (see magic crystal use and filling rules, not yet written). If there are no magic crystals, well, it’s a quick way to refill your MP. All magic items (you need at least one) are destroyed. Only magic items which last over a day work for fueling this spell.
