Explore shadow
Casting time: Variable, 80 KM of distance needed.
Range: self up to 2 other people
Duration: variable - shadow walking takes time
Description:
In addition to any interesting stuff the GM has prepped (if any), this allows you to specify the time of the shadow you want to find.
The person seeking MUST be specific before setting out as to what they are looking for. This is for seeking out items or conditions within the shadow - not people (those are different skills).
Just because you make your roll does not mean the thing can be found - the GM is free to tell you ‘no way’.
Note - there is no x2/d etc for this skill.
Every shadow might have weird, unexpected and dangerous stuff in addition to whatever the PC was looking for.
In addition, the limit to such things as ‘wealth items’ is limited to the PC’s specific skills in such matters. Skills like ‘appraisal’ tell you that you have merely found a lot of low value junk. Unless you know specifically what to look for (with extremely specific skills such as gemology, metallurgy, etc) you cannot find that - just ‘cheap knock offs’.
Even if you can find such things, other concerns like getting them properly cut, marketing them, not flooding the market, etc come in to effect. Essentially, this is a different (potentially very risky) way of getting some money which can be used as ‘seed money’ for a venture or to live awhile on but is less useful than making a self perpetuating business as it is yet another example of ‘the PC’s with a loot bag’.
WARNING: When you go outside of ‘the normal area of play’ IF you die, you DO NOT RESURRECT. When you explore shadows YOU ARE BY DEFINITION GOING TO SUCH A PLACE. This has been said before but wanted to say it again so there is no ‘butt-hurt’ should someone die horribly. Also, while you are headed TO a new shadow you may cross an area that runs you into danger. Or be hunted by stuff.
