Note from Logan: This system is much, much easier than D&D - Russ has expertly written the instructions and broken them down into small parts so they appear long but it's under an hour of stuff to be ready to play. Enjoy!
1. Watch this game on YouTube – at least part of one movie. Here is a good sample game as a playlist on YouTube. Watch as many as you like and enjoy. Did you like what you saw? Good. Playing is more fun than watching. At the time of this writing (just before season 7 starts), 238 adventures (plus guest GM adventures) have been run - so you'll be stepping into a well established, vibrant world with loads of interesting lore and personalities.
2. Figure out what time the game starts for you. Just google 'what time is it in London'. The game starts at 2PM London time. Note! There are different games that go on different days. Some people play during the week, others during the weekend. You can schedule a game that fits YOUR schedule! You can choose to play once a month, once every couple weeks, once a week or whatever suits your schedule.
3. Make a character. Open up the Character Creation Instructions and make a character or follow the instructions to grab a pre-generated one. This is an unskippable preparation step. You’ll have plenty of help on the boards and in the instructions and tools, so do not stress about it.
4. UPLOAD THAT CHARACTER TO THE BOARDS FOR REVIEW. This step is only if you didn't pick a pre-generated character. If you did that, move on to the next step. The instructions to put your character on the boards for review are in the Character Creation Instructions, and this really needs to happen. You'll be frustrated if your character is hopelessly gimped due to some simple oversight on your part. Use your soon-to-be-buddies on the boards. They are happy to help.
5. Ask any questions that aren’t answered in the Character Creation Instructions on the general board. Ask for clarification if the instructions are confusing. You might even do this in the middle of character creation. Ask for clarification if a question isn’t answered by the Character Creation Instructions or Novice/Basic Rules. Ask anything else you need to. Use the general board for this. Remember, everyone was new at one point. People are happy to help out. Ask away.
If there are no slots left for you you may not have to wait. Post the day of the week you want to play, politely, on on the general board and we may be able to shuffle existing players to accommodate you.
7. Friend “Logan Horsford” on Facebook. This is your main point of contact when starting your first game. When sending Logan a friend request on Facebook, be sure to send a message saying "hey, I'm joining ATAW." Logan gets a lot of weird spam friend requests. He is online a lot, so he may accept your friend request in seconds. If it takes more than a day or two, post to the general board that something has gone wrong, and we’ll fix it. Once you've done this you can send him a PM that says "please sign me up for the ATAW FB group" and then you will be made a member of the group.
8. Transfer your character on to Roll20. If you chose a pre-generated character, you still have to do this. You’re okay with the start time, you’ve signed up, and you can contact Logan on Facebook. You should have your character in hand. As it says in the instructions, that isn’t going to be your actual character sheet. Your character sheet will be on Roll20 because, with a Roll20 character sheet, making rolls against your skills is dead simple. Backups are easy, too. Uploading your sheet to Roll20 is what makes ATAW easy to play.
9. Make sure your audio and video work. This is just really important. There’s nothing more frustrating for the other players than messing with technical glitches for the first half-hour rather than playing. Contact someone on the general boards – NOT LOGAN, Logan is busy – and set up a date to do an audio-visual (AV) check.
10. 15 to 30 minutes before the game, PM Logan on Facebook. You're about to start playing! Logan will respond quickly with the Roll20 room and the video stream address. If you don’t do this, Logan will think you’re not coming, so it’s very important to contact him. After he gives you the links, log in and immediately recheck your AV. Since you have done this 15 to 30 minutes before the game starts, if anything at all goes wrong we can fix it before game time.
11. Enjoy your first game. This game is a lot of fun. We want you to enjoy your first game. Relax. Don’t sweat being a newbie and not knowing what to do. You’ll be the lovable new guy. Everyone loves watching someone playing their first game. Just roll with it.

First off, you'll want to be viewing this from a desktop or laptop. The character creation process is not "phone friendly," and you'll need one (computer) for the game anyway.
These notes are the bare minimum you will need to do if you want to start playing Any Time, Any Where (ATAW). If you need or want to skip one, other than not being old enough for Facebook, you probably won’t be successful in joining, or you will find out that you don’t like that you’ve joined after the fact. If you're not old enough for Facebook, say so on the boards.
You will need a webcam and a microphone to play. You will also need a desktop or laptop computer to play from. If you can’t buy or otherwise obtain those, you won’t be able to be part of the game. {Note that webcams are under $20.}
We want you to succeed, and we want you to be sure this is what you want to do so we don’t waste your valuable time. Let’s start gaming!

6. Sign up for one session. You're halfway there. You know the game time is okay for you and you have your character. Now it’s time to select a date.
On the general board there is a pinned thread called “SIGN UP SHEET.” Open that up. Don't be worried if there are few (or no) convenient slots for you. We do our best to try to accommodate new players. On the sign up sheet, there will be a schedule headed by whatever season it is for. If a time slot is marked with [FULL] then the maximum number of players (3) have already claimed that date. Post a reply to the schedule (without quoting) indicating what day you would like to play. New players can only sign up for one session, so sign up for one. If you like your first game, you can sign up for more later. When Logan changes the SIGN UP SHEET to indicate your name, you know it’s a date.
If there are no slots left for you you may not have to wait. Post the day of the week you want to play, politely, on on the general board and we may be able to shuffle existing players to accommodate you.

Contact Logan. Ask him to let you into Roll20. Pick a blank character sheet and transfer all of the items off of your spreadsheet and into Roll20. You will be given simple instructions on how to transfer your character. In case you somehow miss it the process is here.
