Some background - in discussing martial arts vs. guns, Logan was concerned that melee did more damage than guns given that a martial artist could get +d4 for STR and +d3 for Martial arts. In an effort to reduce melee damage, he came up with die shifts rather than extra dice. So now if you are Punching (d3) with MA and STR (+1 shift each) you do a d6 (3.5) damage. This is a significant reduction from before d3 fist + d3 MA + d4 STR = 6.5 damage. This was the intention.
Once he settled on the "track" idea, it occurred to me that instead of +1 bonuses for double tap/+2 damage burst, we could use the damage track to give similar (average) damage bonuses. The goal is to average +1 damage per shift.
Overall, this reduces damage across the board and adds additional randomness to damage rolls. Melee damage and full auto are hit hardest.
Feedback welcome.

We should probably add Finger of Gawd sniper rifle on to the list.
Other weapons would be easy to add later (blaster pistol, light saber, weird Krull disk thing, whatever) onto the list.
Note also if the players get up to the BIG strength bonus:
"Strength - change to 'strength' as a skill. If you have 80+ you get a +d4 damage bonus. If you have 110+ you get a +d6 damage bonus. Base 25. "
So if they have the big daddy strength bonus from having their skill 'strength' at 110 or higher, it would be two shifts on the track.

I'm thinking that if we expand the damage track, figure out where grenades and C4 would go on it that might be helpful as well.
Also, everyone would roll their own damage from incoming explosions. Since you can't 'opponent fails' (using a poz or card) explosions, player could poz to reroll damage - as everyone rolls their own.
