It was suggested that I use Patreon. Research found this article: jerrybanfield.com/patreon-review/From which I pulled this: "I have looked at hundreds of people’s Patreon pages, and I have seen that most of the people there are only doing okay. If you have a YouTube channel already, you may want to put more effort into your channel before attempting to use Patreon to make more money. Another idea is to start your Patreon as a side project, and link your channel to your Patreon page. If you try to use Patreon before you have an audience, it is almost always a waste of time. That is what is frustrating with Patreon. The site was created to support creativity. The sad fact is: most people get almost no support, while a select few get tons of support." and "I had several people who said they would be willing to give $100 to a one-time project, but would not pledge to a monthly project. People just hate monthly bills!" and "It is incredibly difficult to get started on Patreon if you don’t have an existing audience. You should start by making a website, youtube channel, or whatever you want to do that you are passionate about. Learn how to do something valuable. If you have time, and energy to use Patreon and you want to make money, spend your time learning something useful. Come back to Patreon later." and "Patreon is almost useless, until you get around 50-100 supporters. That is really hard to do!" and "It is best to be established in your field before you try to make a living on Patreon."

Well, I'm thinking that with the new computer I will need to get good at editing shit.
I'm thinking that I will edit out the sessions and try to come up with both a video and audio only version of it. (Edit everything as video first then maybe strip out just the audio - not sure.)
Bert suggested that I have my own web page, etc. I'll have to look into that as well as the cost of holding a lot of information.
Possibly end up on youtube with adsense running. Not sure how often they put in the commercials but if someone is watching a 10 hour video (regularly) and it has five or ten commercials in it, that might add up. Not sure.
I'll have to do a lot of research as well as building new skills.
Even if I can just get the stuff recorded (which will be trickier as I want everyone on video this time) and safely stored away until I can edit and post it - that's something.
I'm not a business guru so marketing and stuff like that - tricky for me.
Right now, I'm mainly confining myself to figuring out how to work the plots and tinkering around with the rules a bit. When we get closer to game day I will begin trying to figure out how to transmit and capture the action.
It's going to be tricky with the cards and faces on the screen. Except for those lucky bastards that have two monitors.
In another five years it will be easy with ER googles but for now I've got this tech.

Well, I'm thinking that with the new computer I will need to get good at editing shit. How I see it usually done is that people stream on twitch and have a break every hour or so. Than they just cut the breaks out. They don't do anything fancy with the footage other than that and that is pretty easy to do. I think it is good to plan on doing what seems easy (or doable) rather than complicated, so there is enough space for having fun, which is what attracts viewers. Not sure how often they put in the commercials but if someone is watching a 10 hour video (regularly) and it has five or ten commercials in it, that might add up. Not sure. Uploading a 10 hour vid on youtube is a bitch. People often upload the one hour chunks, either one a day, or few a day, which means that person who wants to see how the adventure continues needs to subscribe to you so they don't miss the continuation or if you had a sub button on twitch they go and pay you money to get instant access to the whole video on the twitch site. I also think that youtube search algorithm likes it better when you upload vids every day than if you uploaded one huge chunk and than nothing. Youtube money is mostly shit until you get a lot of subscribers, that is why lots of youtubers have Patreon. Even if I can just get the stuff recorded (which will be trickier as I want everyone on video this time) and safely stored away until I can edit and post it - that's something. Yes! I'm not a business guru so marketing and stuff like that - tricky for me. I am trying to figure this stuff out for myself as I would like to have my own business thing (I just love freedom to much to do boring work for other people). I have some materials (marketing/branding workbooks covering the basics) I can share if you are interested. "It is best to be established in your field before you try to make a living on Patreon." I think what they mean is that nobody finds you trough Patreon. You need to send people there. So you need to have somebody to send there already, may it be friends, subscribers, long lost family members, rich babies... I don't think it hurts anyone to have the site prepared and build the community over time, sending people there when you get them. It is also about managing expectations - if people don't have any following and expect enormous wealth appear magically, it can be painful when it doesn't happen. What is puzzling me the most when I think about this new bright future of HC from marketing standpoint is how to deal with the 3 months breaks so the people don't lose interested in the meantime, or find something else to watch. Ideal situation would be to have some new content for them even in those breaks. But I don't know... Just thinking out loud. (Or silently. As I type this.)

Ha, idea! Maybe in the 3 months breaks you could republish some of the old HC recording... As some sort of a bonus for new people? Or something like that... (Also clear communication helps I think, to tell everybody that there will be breaks and why etc.)

(Also clear communication helps I think, to tell everybody that there will be breaks and why etc.) It will probably be longer than that but yeah - I'm thinking that the old HC stuff can be the forerunner of the new stuff. But I wanna make sure that the new stuff will happen because it relies on factors outside of my control.

Yes... It would be frustrating to do a lot of work around promotion etc if it wouldn't happened after all.

It's going to be tricky with the cards and faces on the screen. Except for those lucky bastards that have two monitors. If you are insisting on people having video cams of themselves, I know there are many people who don't do that.

I'd like it better if I could get everyone seated around the table using ER googles but the tech isn't quite there yet. Kingsman! But it will be as close as we can get - with current tech - to all being in the same room.

Yes... It would be frustrating to do a lot of work around promotion etc if it wouldn't happened after all. Agree. So I'm (right now) limiting myself (trying to) to preparing the campaign. Even if it doesn't end up kicking off in October, that just means 'more prep time'. While GM's taking too much prep time is often a symptom of something wrong with the GM, I'm thinking that it probably won't be effort wasted. And it doesn't quickly go stale - unlike promotion.

The point I was making in my opening post was that you had no thoughts of your own there, no conclusions and no thoughts on if you believed that person or if you had found a competing article that stated the opposite views, just that you had quoted a single article. However that has been covered while I was away so instead I'm going to link to a previous thread where you posted a similar idea. heroiccthulhu.proboards.com/thread/3883/bit-trivia-upcomingIf you are insisting on people having video cams of themselves, I know there are many people who don't do that. I'm confident there are enough who do to get a game on. Are you making a business, or are you trying to game with friends?

Are you making a business, or are you trying to game with friends? Ideally both but it's a business. I'm putting hundreds of hours of prep into trying to make the best game possible. If the initial income is enough to help pay for some of the gear, storage space and programs needed to make it happen that's a good first step. Later, I'm hoping that the income will get better so that I can have more options in what to do, where to go and game. I suspect that will be some ways off. But I'm working on the game enough that it's kind of becoming my full time job. On top of that, I have deep concerns that the government now currently helping to keep me alive might not always be interested in doing that. So there is a little 'fight for my life' in there as well. Of course, I'd be delighted if eventually so much money was being made that I could start hiring the players, some of the players ended up getting 'discovered' and becoming high paid actors and such - but right now that's just a pipe dream.
