CTHULHU MYTHOS
In standard COC, this had the game purpose of decreasing the maximum amount of sanity someone could ever have. The only game purpose of this was to limit the number of nifty and often over powered spells the players could learn.
Since the spell system in this game is very different - and hopefully not as over powered - I don’t really care if the players learn the spells, hence no real need for Cthulhu mythos as a limiting stat.
Personally, I’d rather just have the players learn about Cthulhu mythos stuff without having a stat for it - the same way as they’d learn about various NPC’s or events. No roll to get free information. They either know - and remember it - or they don’t.
Now, if you read a scary book you may still take some sanity damage but can (hopefully) gain it back before you go mad. Books may have other strange effects as well. Read at your own risk!

So if people can't roll the skill to identify various monsters, how do they get the information then?
And this means that people can't use their own knowledge, equivalent to 30%?

It's kind of like knowing who the various drug dealers are in the town your PC's are in. You know them because they've come up before.
For characters that have 'been around the block' they can say "Sounds like deep ones. Damned fish bastards are probably here to steal our women." Or whatever. It may even be right. That could be exactly how it is going down.
Or it could be completely wrong in this brave new world. The PC's will have to figure it out for themselves.
