Didn't know you could have more than one tree for a single discipline, did ya? Well, yes, you can.
Since I needed this and since it will be a good first tier spell, I am putting this up here to see if anyone has any useful stuff to add to it or questions about it:
Preserve Meat
Casting time: 12 rounds (one minute) Range: 3m Duration: One month MP cost:
Description: No effect on anything sentient or ‘alive’. This can be cast on one corpse to keep it from rotting, or up a pile of different crap up to 10kg. If cast on anything ‘unusual’ (ask GM) that stuff may get an ESS x5 to resist. Aside from keeping corpses (which later may become zombies) from rotting, this can also be used to keep meats, fruits, vegetables, grains, loaves of bread, etc from rotting without aversely affecting taste.

It works on more than just meat. I would call it..."Preservation" or maybe "Decomposition Ward"
Needs an MP cost. 2?

Description: This can be cast on one corpse of up to to keep it from rotting (which later may be used as zombies), or up to 10 kg of miscellaneous (meat, fruit, cooked food etc) items that would normally rot/spoil. If cast on anything ‘unusual’ (ask GM) that stuff may get an ESS x5 to resist. No effect on anything sentient or ‘alive’.
=> Is there a size/weight restriction on the corpse (eg a dragon?)? If the corpse was Frankenstein's Monster style corpse or a giant made up of multiple bodies stitched together, would it work?
=> If the object, say for example the skin/hide of a person or animal, weighed more than 10kg, could it be cast multiple times on that object to preserve it?

Good questions.
I don't want to get in to weighing the corpses. I'd be OK with people casting it multiple times on bigger things to make it happen. Maybe a couple different people with this spell are needed to preserve the dragon or it drains one person to preserve the massive skin.
What is an easy way to do this though?

Something like a variation of the ritual spell? That is multiple people cast the preservation spell and the lead person acts as a focus/channel of the spell. Possibly the casters contribute more MPs to amplify the effect?
Using the dragon example, how many casters would you want there to be, to enable it to be preserved? (and stepping outside this spell, the same type of ritual could be combined with a zombification spell to raise said dragon - assuming you don't already have a spell that allows very large creatures to be turned into zombies)

Holy shit - I've got an idea that is even easier than a size chart - because I'm trying to keep the charts down. Also, it might eventually be able to be done under ritual but since we don't have that really completed just yet, let's leave that alone for now.
How about just have a chain of spells?
Preserve is going to be the tier one spell of the necromancy 2 tree then it will go on to other spells.
However Preserve can also have it's own mini-tree.
Preserve (about 10kg of shit) - preserve (about a normal male human of shit) - preserve (say an ogre or short giant of shit) - preserve (damn, that's a giant of shit) - preserve (about a 747 or a dragon worth of shit) and that's about as big as it goes. Restrictions - the lowest preserve is 'misc shit, all in one place like a big pot. The higher rankings of preserve either need to be in one large (or very large) pot or all one creature.
I do like having a bowl (various sizes for the various spells) be a material component for this spell.
Thoughts?

A branching chain to scale it sounds good. Probably increase the mp cost and casting time each tier? 2/4/8/16/32 MP cost and 1 minute/5 minutes/30 minutes/2 hours/6 hours?
More importantly, I gotta ask....A bowl?

For preservation 2 to 5, you could change descrip to be "As per 1st tier spell, except now can do x amount
