There are various magical systems.
A question that might come up - if I know a spell that gives an effect in one system and that same spell/effect is in another, do I need to learn it again?
Yes.
It is the difference between powering the train with steam vs electricity. Same look, can move down the same track, different way it works.
However - you may be able to 'cheat' by using the other system's spell and everyone thinks it is their local variety.
As not to 'break' where you are at. [Players with experience doing things they shouldn't do in areas where it is not OK should have an idea what happens.]
But generally, all of the spells are tree things so if you want to climb a new type of tree in a new place, then you will need to learn the same effect but cast a new way.
Note that you may have to 'force it' to work. Just because one type of magic works in a zone does not necessarily mean all types of magic work in the zone.
Examples:
John has the standard (still under construction) spell trees and knows a spell that does an air blast. John learns a new magic system that uses musical notes in order to cast spells. Eventually, he discovers that there is an air blast effect using musical notes. John must learn that shit again even though he knows how to do a different kind of air blast. Or John can cast his other one and try to sound the music to get the locals to think 'it's just a normal air blast'.
