In circumstances where the character knows the location/phone number etc of something, however the player does not as Logan just does some handwaving, how do we relay this information?
eg Joshua knows of a hardware store where he can buy lockpicks. No name of the store nor location in that realm has ever been specified. I just say in game, "I go to the hardware store where I can get lockpicks and buy some more"
Could we relay it as - To get lockpicks in Red Carpet go to the following hardware store <location, name of store etc supplied>
Some other way?

The phone number is 734-555-2345. (Everyone will understand this handwaving).
I pick up lockpicks from a store on Oceanic Street near the Pig-In-A-Poke store.
Hell, if I like it, I may even use it. Then it might become cannon. Otherwise, everyone will understand that is hand waving.
The OP was mainly to stop Russ going out of character in two posts.

Yup. Good point. I've been in and out of character.

A long time ago when I first started in LARP's I was *horrible* at that. But, I found that if you are clever enough lots of things can be said in character. If it's something more tricky like OOG knowledge you don't have then I've found I just had to shut the fuck up and get on with my life.

You wouldn't recognize me when I game with my daughter Delilah running the campaign. Very serious roleplaying, and when it melds with plot, it's awesome.
But that's sitting across a table from people. It's a lot harder to get in character when it's message boards+Roll20+Video chat.
I'm considering shaving down to a porn stache for next session to see if that helps me out.

I'll give you a refill of cards for that when we first start.
