Seems a bit lame to have to spend an entire round casting this.

I like Pete's version better - only the meta tree has free action casts - I'd like to keep it corralled in there.
Giving up a round when you positively absolutely don't want to kill them is fine.

Feels like you should cast this on a weapon, not a person. Not sure it belongs in the Body magic tree.
...

Which tree do you think it should be on?

Not sure what other tree you would put it under. You can say that your chi puts a "protective coating" over the weapon so that it doesn't deal lethal damage.

"My body is so magical that when I hack, slash, and stab you with my sword you get knocked out instead of cut to pieces."
Yeah not buying it. Not unless it was limited to unarmed. (Who is dealing real damage with unarmed?)
Where to put it? Probably a tree that doesn't exist yet. Weapon magic? Melee magic? Blade magic (if you specify that it only works on bladed weapons)?
...
A way to make it work as intended in the Body tree would be to cast it on your opponent's body...but then we need something to prevent the abuse of casting it on yourself to make yourself immune to real damage.

Name: Stunning Attack [Credit: Alex, Chris, Pete, Scott]
Casting time: 1rd Range: Self Duration: combat MP cost: 4 Description: All melee damage dealt to the enemy target by you is completely stun for one combat. The range of self refers that you cast it on either your natural weaponry or held weaponry. If you are dumb enough to stab yourself, you do normal damage.

Then again, if someone wants to spend 4MP to knock themselves out - which any rational person would probably say is a silly thing to do - is that OK?

Yeah… Just noticed that. Might want to go with Scott's original one.
Edit: the whole point of changing it was so that you don't cast it on your weapons.

The question would then be 'why not be able to cast it on weapons you are wielding'?
