Something like this might be better on the earth tree. Something like an instant cast, reduce any falling damage over 25m to 8d12 instead of 'roll a 01 or die'. Range: Self Casting Time: Instant MP Cost: 10 Duration: One fall If you fall and land on a natural "earth" surface, the ground yields and cushions your impact. Roll the normal falling damage dice, but the damage is all stun.

Personally, I'd rather have a high level spell that can do as I'd originally suggested to get rid of the 'instant death'.
We can have a lower level variety that does this as well I suppose.
Maybe the thing I suggested could be an air spell so you don't care what sort of surface you fall onto.
With this spell (above) any fall over 25m in this game would still be lethal though as you don't roll damage - just to try to avoid death.

I just assumed that you didn't write what you meant since you are FAR more likely to die rolling 8d12 damage than rolling 'roll a 01 or die'
The likelihood of rolling 8 ones is 1 in 429,981,696
Hell, the likelihood of rolling 32 or less is 1 in 6561
No way I'm casting magic to give up my right to "roll an 01 or die".

What if you just changed it to "when you cast this spell and then hit the ground, make a Willpower X3 roll. If you succeed, you instead drop to 0 HP and are unconscious. You can still make the "roll a 01 or die" roll if you wish even if you succeed on both parts of the spell."

instead of will why not endurance at half? Will gets so many things to roll on already, endurance makes more sense to me.

Nice idea. I agree. Rolling Constitution does make more sense as you are pushing your body to its limits with the aid of magic to not die. At half/-30 makes it more difficult as it should be.

To make it easier on Logan, when passing on a new version of the spell, let's use the complete format. That way it is easier to deal with and eventually lift whole.

When you cast this spell and then hit the ground, make a Constitution/Endurance roll at Half or -30. If you succeed, you instead drop to 0 HP and are unconscious. You can still make the "roll a 01 or die" roll if you wish even if you succeed on both parts of the spell.
We should add something like "if you fail the roll, you die". There should also be a maximum distance that the player can fall before this spell doesn't work. Something like 200m. Above that (which is approximately the minimum safe distance to use a parachute) you should use a fucking parachute. Also thinking that we might rely on fly skills if they have more time than that. But I'm thinking 200m max is pretty generous. If you are falling further than this you have done something wrong at some point.

I don't think there's any need to add anything about trying to move your trajectory while falling. That's not really part of the spell. It should be a rule or something, like… "Freefall: you attempt to change where you will end up falling from a high distance, such as not falling on top of that large spike."

Given how fast you hit the ground from 200m (a little over 6 seconds) you don't really have time to do much to change your trajectory. www.angio.net/personal/climb/speed"even if you succeed on both parts of the spell." Why would you want to? Should it read 'if the dice indicate you would die, you can roll a natural 01 to attempt to avoid that.'?

So if you really wanted to just see if you can walk away from it… You can. I guess there's no real point in having that there. Otherwise, the spell saves you. But, I like your thinking: if you fail the endurance spell, you can still try for the above-mentioned rule.
