That might be the only crafting skill that I have at a decent level.
But there is value in having dual-purpose gear.
So the goal would be to A. have a (relatively) easily replaceable "blocker" item to protect other shinies B. in the mean time have a functional backup weapon that let's me spam a particular magic (if I'm willing to wave it around like a madman.)

Right but to make a fetish, you have to craft the entire thing. So heat up that metal and start pounding it out! Etc.
Or slowly build up yet another crafting skill!
But yes, I'd personally love to have a pistol that was also a fettish though come to think of it, a shirt would be better. Wave them crazy arms! All I needed is 'craft cloth' and 'sewing' skills!

If I ever end up doing this, I'll probably do it with metal crafting and just make rings.
By the way, would this take up 1 of the 10 free skill checks that we get every session or would it take one check per skill involved (so minimum of 3 if you're using metal crafting + create fetish + casting the spell)?

I'd advise just trying to make different useful shit with metal working until you get that up to a decent level. Find stuff the PC's want. Extra horseshoes or whatever is logical in the story. A new knife for Holmes.
If someone wants to do all three rolls, yeah, that's three training rolls boom.
Build up a skill, THEN work on building the next, etc.

Would craft metal enable you to make rings and other Jewelry or would you need craft metal & craft jewelry. What about blades be it a knife or a sword would craft metal cover it or would you need a craft blade or a craft knife and a craft sword skill?

If you are making a straight metal ring (no setting) craft metal would do. Craft metal will get you a more crude dagger than if you had specialized 'craft dagger' skill or 'craft sword' skill - the way it has always worked.

And I'm assuming for the grip/hilt you would need woodcrafting/leatherworking?

There's no real way to do that in game so it would fall under the "10 skills a session" thing.

And this is why fetishes are usually something simple like a fucking wand, Harry Potter.

]If you are making a straight metal ring (no setting) craft metal would do. So you don't need to mine the ore and refine it first? So sometimes (dagger) you can roll either Metalcraft or Craft (weapon), but sometimes (gun) you have to roll both Metalcraft AND Craft (weapon)?

"Gun-smith: This is good for fixing your gun, clearing a jam or if you have a workshop you might be able to modify your gun."
For actually building a gun from the ground up, you need more skills than just gunsmithing.

That's not what the word "gunsmith" means. If you merely repair and modify guns, you are an armorer, not a gunsmith.

I just copy pasted what has been in the rules section for the last decade. Just because you suddenly need a viable crafting skill to make a fetish does not mean that the skill will suddenly expand sir.
